Adobe Systems announced Tuesday the availability of version 5.5 of its Creative Suite. The company said the new version provides improvements in HTML5 and Flash authoring, innovation in video production and editing, and new capabilities in digital publishing.
Version 5.5 enhances the ability of content authors to create work for multiple platforms, operating systems, and mobile devices, including those based on Apple's iOS, Google's open-source Android, or the BlackBerry Tablet OS.
'Leading the Charge' for HTML5
Adobe has battled with Apple about its ban on Adobe's Flash for mobile devices, while Apple has been promoting the developing HTML5 standard as an alternative. As a result, CS 5.5 supports both technologies. Adobe said key applications -- Flash Professional CS5.5, Flash Builder 4.5 Premium, and Flex 4.5 framework -- let users build both HTML5 and Flash content for mobile devices.
David Wadhwani, senior vice president and general manager of creative and interactive solutions at Adobe, said the company "is leading the charge for HTML5 authoring with new capabilities that will enhance the delivery of HTML content across multiple browsers" on desktops, tablets and smartphones.
To support tablets, CS 5.5 offers new levels of interactivity that designers can add to page layouts. Adobe Publishing Suite 5.5 Professional Edition lets publishers issue content for Android, BlackBerry and Apple tablets.
